Weekend Getaway Feb 19-21
Please join us for a Winter Weekend Getaway to Dayton, Ohio, Feb 19-21, 2005. Miatas are optional, but relaxation is expected.
We'll depart the Chicago area on Saturday morning, Feb. 19, for the 5-hour drive to Dayton. We'll stop for lunch along the way. In Dayton, we'll tour the Wright brothers' bicycle shop and the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park visitor's center . We'll then travel about 20 miles east to Cedarville and check into our rooms at the Hearthstone Inn & Suites, a small, modern inn with a country feel ().
Dinner will be at the Winds Cafe in nearby Yellow Springs.. Sunday morning, we'll depart the inn by 8:45 (Eastern time), and drive back to Dayton for a tour of the National Museum of the United States Air Force. The museum recently expanded and now has over 300 aircraft in its collection. By arriving early, we can take the 9:30 shuttle to the remote hangar, allowing us to walk through four former Air Force Ones used by presidents Roosevelt through Reagan. Lunch will be at the museum cafeteria.
Since Monday, Feb. 21 is Presidents' Day, we'll offer two return options. You can leave the museum at 3:30pm, stop for dinner en-route, and arrive back in Chicago around 9:00pm (Central time). Some of us will stay another night at the Hearthstone, and eat dinner nearby. Monday will feature a leisurely departure, a tour of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum , and a 6:30pm arrival in Chicago.
Your costs will include the Inn ($94 Saturday, $79 Sunday, plus tax), meals (Winds Cafe entrees are $18 to $27), and fuel. The National Historical Park and Air Force Museum are free. The Speedway Hall of Fame is $3. To register, call the Hearthstone Inn at 877-644-6466, tell them you're with the Miata Club, and guarantee your room with a credit card. Then send an email to Leonie O'Donohoe to let us know you're coming and which return option you prefer. There are 15 rooms available, first-come, first-served. We'll set up a waiting list if necessary.
