| The
glaciers that flattened our beloved Illinois spared western Wisconsin. This
region is ''driftless," because it doesn't have glacial deposits (aka
'"drift").
What that means to Miata-drivers is lots of curvy roads passing through beautiful scenery, only a few hours from Chicago-land! We'll begin the tour early Saturday morning, June 11, leaving the flatlands as quickly as possible. The roads will start getting interesting mid-morning. Our plan is to drive northwest, eat lunch, drive west, drive north, drive southeast, and stop short of total exhaustion, in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. We'll rest & tidy-up a bit, have a cocktail perhaps, and a cookout style dinner (steaks & chicken, I expect) in our hotel's courtyard. Sunday will be more of the same - driving the most interesting roads in the area, until we are forced to head for the highway and back to Illinois. If this sounds like nothin' but driving & eating & a bit of socializing (oh, and you will get to sleep, too) - you're right! We have a block of rooms reserved at the Voyageur Inn (http://www.voyageurinn.com/, Phone: 608-524-6431 or 800-444-4493) in Reedsburg (standard room w/ 2 double beds at $69 plus tax, $10 more for king, $20 more for king w/ whirlpool). Lunch arrangements aren't finalized, but plan on about $10 per person for Saturday lunch and Dinner is set at $22 for the steak & chicken cookout (excluding drinks). Plus, whatever you'll spend on Sunday meals, fuel, a nominal tour fee to cover goodie bags & such. About the dates - I regret
that the only dates we could arrange for this tour are the same weekend
as Tech Day. Those of you who would like to do both will have to choose.
