SUMMER OF SPEED TOUR
ROAD AMERICA
July 16-17, 2005

Summer is just around the corner and you know what that means.....Road America! This year we will be attending the Brian Redman International Challenge. That's vintage racing don't you know?

Those of you that have attended the 2003 or 2004 tour will feel right at home. We will meet early Saturday morning (July 16th) and caravan together through all sorts of twisty roads. We will be having lunch again at the Marsh Lodge in Elkhart Lake. Get the broasted chicken, it is sooo good!

Accommodations during this weekend are extremely difficult to secure. Last year we camped at the Marsh. It was a good time and the price was right. The campground has clean bathrooms and warm showers. If camping is not for you, there is a list of hotels and B & Bs here http://www.roadamerica.com/2005/local.htm. I would recommend the Ramada Inn in Fon du Lac. We stayed there two weeks ago. They have nice rooms, reasonable pricing, and no minimum stay requirements. I have heard from others that the hotel closer to Road America are already full.

We will be having dinner at a fine Wisconsin supper club, so don't eat too much chicken. After dinner we will make our way to downtown Elkhart Lake. They host a concours right on the streets of the town and adjacent to Siebken's Resort. If you were there two years ago, you realize I am not exaggerating when I say that the atmosphere is truly magical. There are all types of expensive and rare vintage cars and Siebken's has several mobile bars set up right on the sidewalks. Very cool, and a real nod to the way it "used to be."

Sunday's admission ticket to the track includes a paddock pass so you can get up close and personal with the cars and drivers. Track touring is available for an additional fee. Breakfast and Lunch can be purchased at the track. As a matter of fact, RA's food stands are regarded as the best in the country. You can bring in coolers, so a cool beverage or food from the outside is allowed. Seeing a race at Road America couldn't be more different than watching the Daytona 500 for example. You can actually drive your car pretty much anywhere on the grounds of this expansive facility to see the action from any one of the 14 corners.

We announced this tour at the Feb 22nd meeting so there are not a whole lot of spaces available. Please email me at imarcr2@att.net if you want to go. Finally, please email me with your preference for accommodations...camping or hotel.

Thanks, Bill Luxon

Web Editor's Note:

Bill says the tour was filled two days after it was announced at the February meeting.

Since there are usually several people that decide in July that they really don't sleep in a tent,
he's taking a wait list.

If you're going to stay in a room instead of a tent, you MUST make your own reservations.
Furthermore, make them NOW!

There will likely be no rooms that are close to Elkhart come April. This is one of the big
racing events at Elkhart Lake.
