Fall Colour Tour

Sunday, October 15th the WCMC will be traveling from northern IL into Wisconsin for our annual Fall  Color Tour to drive some favorite twisty back roads up through Kettle Moraine.

We will stop for lunch at The Mineshaft Restaurant, Hartford, WI at 1 PM. Then we’ll make our annual stop for pumpkins and other seasonal goodies at Bower’s Produce in East Troy, WI, as we drive the return trip on some new twisty back roads home. The drive should bring us back to the IL/WI border around the Lake Geneva area by approximately 4-5 PM or you can head southwest after the produce stop at the junction of Rt 20 & Rt 43.

I would like an RSVP if you plan on joining us for lunch so I can give the restaurant a headcount and have enough routes printed. There is no tour fee but you are responsible for your own lunch costs off the menu.

The tour will be leaving promptly at 9:15 AM from the parking lot of a strip mall at the NW corner of Midlothian Road and RT 176. Optional breakfast is at Grandma V’s in Mundelein, IL, on the NE corner of RT 45 & RT 176 from 7:15 AM – 8:45 AM. There’s also Ely’s Pancake House on the SW corner of Rts 60/83 if you are coming from the south, as Grandma V’s will get crowded. If you do not want breakfast, please arrive at the shopping mall before 9:00 AM to sign the waiver and get your tour package. There is a Starbuck’s , also a Wendy’s and Dominick’s at this location if you just need some caffeine and goodies to get you started. Gather in the large area east of Starbuck’s.

Directions to Grandma V’s -OR– the Starting Point Parking Lot:

* From 294/94 Tri-State – exit at Rt 176 and turn right (west) for 5 miles to Grandma V’s or 6 miles further to the Starbuck’s lot.

* From Rt 355/53 exit at Lake Cook Road West (left lane). As you go up the ramp, stay in the right lane and turn right at the stop light on Old Rt 53 ( H i c k s Road). Follow it until it ends at Rt 83 and turn left. Drive north 7 miles and when it splits with Rt
60/83 and Rt 45 just before Mundelein (Ely’s Pancake House is here on the left), or stay straight on Rt 45 to Rt 176 to Grandma V’s or turn left on Rt 176 to the Starbuck’s lot.

* From Rt 59, go east on Rt 176 about 7.5 miles to Rt 45 - Grandma V’s or less to the Starbuck’s lot.
