The Windy City Miata Club (WCMC) is a not-for-profit organization designed to promote the enjoyment of good will and fellowship derived from owning a Mazda Miata. Though most of our membership is located in the Chicagoland area, we have members in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and other states. As of the end of 2015, we have 310 great members, with 211 Miatas.

You're invited to join us at our next meeting or activity! Regular club meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of each month at Fuddruckers in Downers Grove (Click here).

New and prospective members are always welcome at our events. Some events may require an RSVP to the organizer. If you want more information about an upcoming event, please email the event organizer at the address shown on the event page or you may contact us here.

A Word from our President - August 2017

No, it isn’t a set-up for a joke, and in fact, it was a breakfast café, not a bar. Last week I met with former colleagues for breakfast and to bless the music therapist’s new car – a red Prius with all the bells and whistles, including a sunroof. (I tried to talk her into buying a Miata, but you can’t fit a keyboard, folk harp, and guitar into a Miata.)

We went out on the street, laid hands on the car, and I did a proper invocation. But what followed next was pure improvisation, each chaplain in turn blessing everything from lug nuts to GPS, from musical instruments to be transported to clients to be visited, from driver to child’s car seat and the beloved niece who will be secured there. There was a lot of love and laughter that morning – and even a bit of awe.

It reminded me of the morning more than 40 years ago when a mentor and friend blessed our first car, an ill-fated 1974 Triumph Spitfire. (I guess it needed more than one blessing.) And again, there was laughter and love and a bit of awe. There is a spirituality of roadsters and of the enthusiasts’ clubs that bring drivers together. Think of the values we seek to live out as a Club – community, mutual accountability, responsibility, spontaneity,  respect, compassion, creativity, friendship, joy, and (especially if you are driving the Tunnel of Trees or the Tail of the Dragon or Bryce Canyon) at least a little bit of awe.

Things to ponder as we consider the question emailed to you recently, “Why am I a member of the Windy City Miata Club?”
