I LOVE A PARADE

And who doesn’t??  Especially on the Fourth of July!  And especially when we are again returning champs in the Automotive Division.

Join us for WCMC’s return to the Evanston 4th of July Parade.  We will be gathering for brunch at 11:00 at:

               Ridgeview Grill

               827 Ridge Road

               Wilmette, IL

While the restaurant address is Wilmette, its location is less than 1.5 miles from the parade staging area. Ridgeview Is located at Lake and Ridge. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant accessible from either street.

At 12:15 we will drive to our assigned place in the Parade staging area. We’ll have time to decorate our cars, show off our handiwork, and check out some of the other Parade participants before the Parade steps off at 2:00 pm. If you are joining us just for the Parade and not for brunch, we’ll meet you in the Ridgeview Parking lot at 12:15.

The Evanston July 4th Parade has been called “one of the best small town Parades in America.” Its history stretches back to 1921 when the North End Mother’s Club formed the North Evanston 4th of July Association “to provide a full day of safe, supervised, constructive activities for children.” The Evanston Fourth of July Association continues this tradition with a day of activities focused around the Parade. Thousands of people stake out their spot along the route days, if not weeks, in advance - and are there to cheer on Parade participants whatever the weather brings.

WCMC participation in the Parade was started a decade ago by Anne and Jim Osburn. We have decorated our cars patriotically (please use red/white/blue bows, ribbons, etc.) and participated enthusiastically (flashing lights and honking horns). As a result we have often won either first or second place in the Automotive Division and have been able to bring a plaque back to the Club.  Join us as we continue a very enjoyable tradition.

A couple of additional quick facts:  The Evanston July 4th Parade is a well organized, well executed event.  Candy-tossing is not permitted (which is a good thing since our Miatas can’t possibly hold that much candy!).  Also there is a theme each year, usually Evanston-related.  This year’s theme is “Evanston’s Heroes Are America’s Heroes: Our First Responders.”

For planning purposes we need your RSVP by phone 773-283-4336 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please let us know by July 2 if you will joining us for
