The Reuben Road Trip
Saturday, July 14, 2018
Hits : 420

We heard from a close friend about a place in Wisconsin that had the best Rueben he had ever tasted.  Being a lover of this delectable sandwich, Carla and I had to find out for ourselves.  We went, we ate, and now we want to share the experience with our WCMC friends.

Drivers meeting Saturday, July 14, at 9:15a and departing at 9:30a from the Woodman's parking lot in North Aurora (corner of Oak Street and Orchard Road) off of I-88.  We will take a leisurely drive to Genoa City in Wisconsin to Herner's Hideaway for what could be our nation's greatest Rueben sandwich.  This restaurant also has a very interesting and varied bar type lunch menu for non Rueben fans.

No breakfast on this trip, so come fed.  It will take approximately two hours to get to the restaurant through northern Illinois.  We plan on arriving at the restaurant around noon.

On the way home we will stop at three resale shops in a small town, and then stop at the "Fire & Ice" ice cream shop in Marengo, IL.   You can enjoy something as mundane as a scoop of vanilla or as unusual as bacon flavored ice cream.  They generally have about a dozen types of homemade ice cream.

After we have our fill of ice cream, you are free to cut loose and find your own way home at approximately 3:00p.

Unfortunately, we can only accommodate twenty (20) cars.  Please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for reservations.
