Fall Color Tour – Sunday Oct 21, 2018

by Leonie O’Donohoe and Kenton Andersen

This year will mark the 26th annual Fall Color Tour. As in prior years, we’ll start at Lamb’s Farm in Libertyville and end at Crandall’s Restaurant in Hebron. We’ll include the popular twisty roads of the Kettle Moraine, but with a few new routes, too. Back by popular demand, we’ll be stopping at the Elegant Farmer for those who crave apple pies in a bag.

Lamb’s Magnolia Cafe will open their buffet at 7:30 am to accommodate us. If we have more than 20 cars, we plan on sending out two groups, the first at 8:30 and the second at 8:50. Lamb’s is just off northbound I-94 at IL-176 Rockland Road (exit 16). Please arrive with a full tank of gas – the tollway oasis is just 2 miles before Lamb's, and it is 75 miles to the first gas station on the tour.

The tour will conclude by 3 pm at Crandall’s Restaurant, 10441 Main St (IL-47) in Hebron IL. To speed service, we've limited the menu to 4 items:

  • “All-you-can-eat World Famous Broasted Chicken” with sides $12.95
  • Chef Salad $9.95
  • Fish Sandwich with French Fries $9.95
  • Chopped Steak $11.95

Drinks, tax, and tip are extra.

We will ask you to choose one item when you sign in for the tour. This way the restaurant will be prepared for us. Checks will be by tables. Crandall's has a slow credit card machine, so they suggest you bring cash.

Fall Color Preview – Sunday Oct 7, 2018

We need a few intrepid members to help with the tour. The tour is traditionally well-attended, and by having several cars that already know the route, we hope to minimize lost cars and re-grouping delays. If we split into two groups, we’ll need another lead car as well as sweeps. Each car will need a navigator and CB radio.

The preview tour will follow the exact same route, and will give us a chance to fine-tune the tour packet. To volunteer, please email Kenton at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
