“Abe Loves Miatas” Tour, June 21-23

PLEASE NOTE THIS TOUR, LIMITED TO 20 CARS, IS CURRENTLY FULL.  See the end of the article below for info about the wait list.

We plan to lead a three-day/two-night tour to Springfield IL Friday, June 21st through Sunday, June 23rd.  This tour will feature Historic US Route 66 as well as Abraham Lincoln sites and lore.  We are calling it Abe Loves Miatas.

Here is a brief overview of the tour:

We will leave from Romeoville on Friday morning around 8:30 am.  We plan a leisurely drive down Historic Route 66 with a few stops along the way, including the Abraham Lincoln Heritage Museum in Lincoln, IL.  We’ll arrive in Springfield in time to check into our hotel and then enjoy a buffet dinner in Maldaner’s Restaurant, a Springfield institution since 1884.

Saturday morning will feature a drive over some fun roads to Lincoln’s New Salem State Park, a restored village where Lincoln lived for six years.  After lunch we will return to Springfield where tour participants will have the afternoon to explore on your own.  There are several options very close to the hotel, including the recently renovated Governor’s Mansion, the Old State Capital, Lincoln’s Home, the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Dana-Thomas House, and Lincoln’s Tomb.  Saturday night we will join a local car club for a “cruise-in” and casual dinner at a Route 66-themed bar and grill and museum.

Sunday will be a full day of driving (except for rest and lunch stops), mostly along rural roads and scenic “twisties.”  The tour will end in LaSalle IL just off Interstate 80 around 5:30 pm.

Budget:

We have secured a block of rooms for the reasonable rate of $115 per night (plus tax), including a full breakfast buffet both mornings.  There is also a tour fee of $78 per person which covers the Friday night dinner, Saturday lunch, Sunday lunch, admission to the Abraham Lincoln Heritage Museum, admission to New Salem and the cruise-in (car show) entry fee.  Expenses not covered in the tour fee include lunch Friday, dinner Saturday, admission fees for sites you might visit on Saturday afternoon, and other incidentals.

How to sign up:

Currently this tour is FULL.  However, we would be happy to take your name(s) for our wait list and we would then reach out to you if a slot opens up.
