Ladies Only - Elmhurst

Hello Ladies,

There is an exhibit at the Elmhurst History Museum going on through the end of January. The address is 120 E. Park Ave. It's called "Lost Chicagoland Department Stores. The objects on display include an animatronic Marshall Field's Christmas window, old Sears catalogs, Montgomery Ward's credit cards, ornaments from the old Walnut Room Christmas trees, even a Frango Mint display.

The news article I read about this display talks about how people in Chicago had a real identity with these stores. And these stores were a huge part of people's lives. And "in no other city has the department store gained the same hold on the people as it has in Chicago. " "The  Chicago department stores are larger, more numerous, and transact more business than do those of any of the eastern cities." Those quotes are from The Arena magazine in 1897.

No matter where we grew up, we all remember department stores. They did play a big part of our lives!! This should be very interesting to see how they have put the display together. And it should bring back some good memories.

Admission is free. Now that's a bonus!. Let's plan to meet right inside the front door at 11:00. Saturday, January 20th is the date. Afterwards, we can have a little something to eat at The Rainbow Cafe, 254 N. York St. Elmhurst. Park on the street or there is a parking garage right next door. And we can talk about the museum experience.

As always, please text me to let me know you would like to be a part of our event.

Thanks, Sue Kendall  224-388-4072
